hello,

Crispy Air Fryer Zucchini Fries for Midlife Hormone Health

Recipe

When you enter midlife, your body starts reacting differently to the foods you used to eat without a second thought. Heavy dairy, refined flour, and deep-fried snacks suddenly leave you feeling sluggish, bloated, or dealing with an unexpected energy crash. But asking for satisfying fries shouldn’t mean sacrificing your blood sugar stability.

Making zucchini fries in air fryer gives you that exact deep-fried crispness using zero dairy, gluten, or unnecessary oils. They take less than 20 minutes to make, won’t spike your blood sugar, and are easy on your stomach.

Why These Air Fryer Zucchini Fries Work for Hormone Health

Through my targeted coaching and nutrition programs, I focus heavily on how everyday meals impact cortisol, insulin, and estrogen clearance. Snack foods are often where midlife nutrition falls off track, not because of a lack of willpower, but because most convenience snacks trigger blood sugar spikes.

Here is why this simple recipe works well for your midlife hormones:

  • Supports Estrogen Balance: Zucchini is loaded with water and soluble fiber. Fiber is essential during perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause because it binds to metabolized estrogen in your digestive tract so your body can clear it out efficiently.
  • Reduces Water Retention and Bloat: Zucchini is naturally high in potassium. Potassium helps balance sodium levels, reducing mid-afternoon fluid retention and puffiness. If you deal with frequent bloating, simple adjustments can help ease menopause belly bloat alongside what’s on your plate.
  • Protects Joints and Calms Temperature Spikes: Deep frying in unstable vegetable oils triggers systemic inflammation, which can worsen joint stiffness and hot flashes. Using an air fryer delivers the crunch using high-quality monounsaturated fats like avocado oil, keeping inflammation low. And if heat surges are a frequent struggle for you, it is also worth checking your mineral levels to see if an iron deficiency triggers hot flashes in your body.
  • Zero Dairy, Zero Blood Sugar Crash: Traditional restaurant versions coat zucchini in parmesan and wheat breadcrumbs. This recipe uses a light almond flour and coconut flour coating seasoned with garlic and herbs.

The Secret to Non-Soggy Zucchini Fries in the Air Fryer

The most common complaint with zucchini is that it releases water and turns soft. Because zucchini has high moisture content, a few quick preparation steps ensure maximum crunch:

  • Cut even sticks: Aim for 1/2-inch thick batons. If you cut them too thin, they wilt; if too thick, the inside gets mushy before the outside crisps.
  • Salt and pat dry: After slicing, toss the zucchini sticks with a pinch of salt and let them sit on paper towels for 10 minutes. Wipe off the beads of moisture before breading.
  • Don’t crowd the basket: Air fryers rely on circulating dry heat. Arrange the fries in a single layer with space between them. Cook in two batches if necessary.

  • Cook Time: 10 minutes
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x
  • Method: Air Frying

Ingredients

Units Scale
2 medium zucchinis, cut into 1/2-inch fries 1/2 cup fine blanched almond flour 2 tablespoons coconut flour (or arrowroot powder) 1 teaspoon garlic powder 1 teaspoon onion powder 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning 1/2 teaspoon sea salt 1/4 teaspoon black pepper 1 large egg (beaten) Avocado oil spray

Instructions

1. Prep the zucchini: Cut the ends off the zucchinis, slice them in half horizontally, then slice each section into 1/2-inch thick fry sticks. Lay them on a paper towel, sprinkle with a tiny pinch of salt, and let rest for 10 minutes. Blot dry with a paper towel.

2. Set up your coating station: In one bowl, whisk the egg. In a second bowl, combine the almond flour, coconut flour, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, sea salt, and black pepper.

3. Bread the fries: Dip each zucchini stick into the egg mixture, let any excess drip off, then press into the almond flour and coconut flour mixture until evenly coated.

4. Preheat the air fryer: Set your air fryer to 390°F (200°C) for 3 minutes.

5. Arrange and spray: Place the coated zucchini fries in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they do not touch. Lightly mist the tops with avocado oil spray.

6. Air fry: Cook for 10 minutes, flipping them at the 5-minute mark and lightly spraying the other side, until golden brown and crispy.

7. Serve immediately: Enjoy warm with a side of unsweetened garlic-herb avocado mayo or simple marinara.
